The Critiques of a Writing Professor
This quarter I am writing a research paper on UCSB students and their participation in the dieting act of restricting calories on days of alcohol consumption. I began my literature review with the following line:
“Drinking, partying, raging: these are all actions that are often associated with the less academic side of college.”
The first feedback my professor wrote on my paper was scribbled next to an arrow pointing at the word “raging.” She wrote: “you may want a footnote to define this.”
I’m pretty sure if I did write a definition for the word raging, it would include drinking and partying in it…

Benicia Bars
The very first time I went to a Benicia bar, I ran into my high school biology teacher
as soon as I walked in the door.
Tonight I went back to that same bar, and sat down for pitchers…
with my high school physics/calculus teacher.
Is this the social life that I have to look forward to?
P.S. I’m pretty sure he has work tomorrow. Teaching at my old high school. Why were you out at a bar tonight Mr. Black? (I called him Mr. Black when I first saw him, but should you really call a man that you have beers with Mr. __________ even if he was your teacher at one point in time?)
